How it works

This calculator uses the UK statutory baseline of 5.6 weeks annual leave. For days-based calculations, entitlement is days worked per week x 5.6. For hours-based calculations, entitlement is hours worked per week x 5.6.

Pro-rata entitlement is calculated from your start date through to the end of your current leave year. Shift worker mode estimates weekly hours from your reference period first, then applies the same 5.6-week statutory approach.

FAQ

What is UK statutory holiday entitlement?

Most workers are entitled to 5.6 weeks paid holiday each leave year. For a standard 5-day week, that's 28 days (which can include bank holidays depending on your contract).

Is this calculator suitable for part-time workers?

Yes. Enter your normal days or hours worked per week and the tool will calculate your full-year and pro-rata entitlement automatically.

Can employers include bank holidays in entitlement?

They often can, depending on the employment contract. Check your terms and company policy to see whether bank holidays count toward your 28-day statutory total.

What holiday entitlement am I owed when leaving a job?

When you leave a job part-way through a leave year you are entitled to holiday accrued up to your last day, minus any leave already taken. Use the pro-rata mode above with your actual leaving date to calculate the exact figure. Your employer must pay any accrued but untaken holiday in your final payslip (known as payment in lieu of holiday).

How much holiday have I accrued so far this year?

Holiday accrues proportionally throughout the leave year. Enter your leave year start date and today's date in the pro-rata section above to see how many days or hours you have built up so far.

How do I convert annual leave hours into days?

Divide the total leave hours by the number of hours in your working day. For example, if you work 7.5 hours per day and have 168 hours entitlement, that equals 22.4 days. The calculator handles this conversion automatically when you select hours mode.

How is holiday pay calculated?

For workers with regular hours, holiday pay is usually calculated at your normal weekly rate. For variable-hours workers, HMRC guidance requires an average of the last 52 weeks of pay that included earnings. Enter your weekly pay in the calculator above to get an instant holiday pay estimate.
